GTD – Getting Things Done with GTDInbox

Over the last few months I have adapted my way of working to the very popular Dave Allen’s Getting Things Done (GTD) method. If your not sure what this is then check out the book, audio book, Dave’s site or that of Merlin Mann (43folders.com). It Just Works!

As I am inundated with emails etc I had being looking for a practical tool to help me. I have tried OmniFocus for the Mac. It works very well however for some folks it is quite expensive at $79.00 and only available for the Mac.

As a consultant I find myself using different laptop and desktop computers, so I find I can’t always use my Mac.

I came across a new firefox addin called GTDInbox that extends GMail with GTD capabilities. WoW – It is simple, costs nothing (although I am going to send a donation to Andy) and suits my working lifestyle just fine. I have Firefox on all the machines I work on and I have a GMail account.

When ideas come along I can simply compose a one-liner to myself and later tag (or label) with the appropriate Action Project and Context.

Through the GMail enhancement of the GTD Dashboard I can view a list of actions based on a tag. That means I can see all the outstanding actions for Phone, Work, Home, Errands, Next Actions, Waiting For etc.

It is just brilliant. Well done Andy Mitchell – 5 stars!

You can read about it or listen to the audio book from iTunes

I have being pleasantly surprised by a FireFox addon called GTDInbox.

After writing the above article it’s fair to say that I’ve had a few hiccups with GTDInbox in that it is tightly bound to GMail. Google are constantly changing stuff and sometimes it renders GTDInbox out of action. Andy does his best to fix it and now I’m using version 2.0.6. Needless to say, with or without the hiccups, I still like it and use it.
