New possibilities – The Lefkoe Method

Our beliefs shape our present and future behavior and reality. We sometimes admire or question our own behavior. Negative beliefs, such as those described below, help to create a negative self esteem that leads to dysfunctional behavior:

  • I’m not good enough  (page 44, 57)
  • I’m not important  (page 21)
  • I can’t do it       (page 83, 137)
  • Relationships don’t work    (page 23)
  • I’m powerless   (page 148)
  • I’m not worthy  (page 36,42,57)
So how do you eliminate your beliefs that limit you and create new possibilities in a short time frame?
Most, if not all, of our beliefs have emerged from childhood in our interpretation of events that have occurred over and over again to form “the truth” rather than “a truth”.
Morty Lefkoe has developed an effective and proven method that he has practiced and refined over the past 20 years to eliminate each dysfunctional belief within 15-30 minutes. The method and some fascinating detailed case studies are described in his book Recreate your Life.
The method is as follows:
1. Identify common patterns/habits that may lead to dysfunctional behavior.
Example: I always have to prove myself.
2. Identify from your patterns the source and core beliefs such as “I am not worthy”.
3. Conclude that indeed your conclusion, then, based on the information you had was correct. We shouldn’t try to change this!
4. Brainstorm and look at other possibilities, interpretations, that may have explained the outcome of the events.
5. Look around you – can you physically see the core belief – is it visible? Can you touch “I’m not worthy”. Of course not… it is just an interpretation. The penny begins to drop…
6. Eliminate it. Was your interpretation – “the truth”? Of course not – it was “a truth”. Look at the possibilities we brainstormed earlier.
7. Look – can you still see your core belief? The answer should be no. Bingo – you have eliminated your belief.
I can hear what your thinking… so amazingly simple it can’t be true – wrong! It is that simple. I have tried it myself and eliminated 15+ beliefs using this technique. It has totally changed my outlook and I now have a new perspective.
As soon as you brain has become accustomed to finding other possibilities, the re-enforced path, which it has taken, constantly to determine your behavior now has many other paths. What is important here is that you have not changed the path but provided other possibilities, new paths, that could not have been found before.
The hardest part of the method is to own up to your patterns and to look back into your past for the source. Write down as many situations as your can generate and then scan through looking for core beliefs.
Morty describes using a Lefkoe facilitator to help you uncover the patterns and beliefs. As far as I am aware there are no Lefkoe facilitators in Europe. So, if having read the book, you need some help – contact me. I am such a big fan of the method I would like to help others achieve their goals.
One key point that Morty makes is that the method can be applied to all situations especially parenting and business.
Yes – as a parent, even though we have good intentions for our kids, our actions can actually create negative self esteem in our children. The book addresses some of these aspects. Again it has totally changed how I react to children.
In business the hardest thing is change – or is it? Actually it comes back to the root beliefs on individuals. Why change when you think that what you are doing today is the best thing. If you can address this core belief present in many people, then change becomes easy. Everyone wants to do the right thing and succeed. The trick is to find the key. Persuasion never works because it does not address the core beliefs.
I fully recommend this 200 page book. Its worth noting that there have also been various trials to prove that the method works.
It is a breakthrough in the way we think and will open up new possibilities that until now were not available.
